Cameron on Transparency

Just a quick note to remind people that they can still pose David Cameron questions on the Conservative draft manifesto on Transparent Government and tune in at 5:30pm to see him hopefully answer at least one of the 4 questions I currently have in the top 10!

  1. So what would have happened if Tories were in power? Would Lord Ashcroft's shady past have come to light - when did William Hague really know about his tax affairs? I am not convinced the Tories would be any better about transparency than the poor Labour set up.

  2. I'm not sure that Lord Ashcroft's past would be described as "shady", unlike someone like Lord Paul of Marylebone, but certainly more transparency in the situation of Ashcroft would have been good because he should have been able to be up front and either do what other non-dom Lords did and stay non-dom, or become domiciled in the UK for tax purposes. If nothing else, I suspect the Conservatives will love being very transparent in the start about all of Labour's waste and dodgy backhand deals over the last 13 years...
